Social Worker - Oncology

Social Worker for Medical Oncology

Permanent Part Time 0.7 FTE

Life is a collection of small moments: meaningful moments, challenging moments, moments to remember. At Te Whatu Ora South Canterbury, we want to support our people to enjoy more of the moments that matter. Are you ready to join us?

Right now, there is an opportunity for a qualified Social Worker to join our specialist team and provide support services to people entering their cancer journey.

Your patients will be on the pathway from a suspected cancer diagnosis undergoing investigation, through to starting treatment for a confirmed cancer.  The role crosses health services, with a focus on supporting people and their family/whanau who face challenges that might jeopardise access to investigations, treatment, or adjustment to diagnosis.

The successful candidate will be able to focus on assessment of needs such as situational, socio-emotional and cultural along with delivery of requisite support. Additionally, liaison with a range of parties and sound record keeping is essential to ensure both continuity of care and management of risk.

We welcome applications from candidates with the following;

  • Full registration with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration board and a current practising certificate
  • ANZASW membership and participation in monthly clinical supervision
  • Experience managing complex needs of patients and whanau
  • Aptitude to make autonomous decisions within scope of practice
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
