Learning Hub and Jean Todd Maternity - Timaru Hospital
Permanent, Part-Time, 32 hours per fortnight
Think for a moment about the kind of midwife you’d be in an ideal environment. You’d be cool and calm, patient and compassionate, and always have time for that mum who’s having a post-birth ‘moment’ or needs some extra breastfeeding support. You’d know you were good at your job and so are your colleagues. And that’s exactly what the Midwifery Educator helps create for all our Midwives, here at South Canterbury District Health Board.
Welcome to the SCDHB Learning Hub. As the Midwifery Educator, you will be a key member of our Learning Hub team. You will primarily be working in collaboration with the Charge Midwife Manager and Midwife Clinical Coach to develop, coordinate and manage education programmes for maternity-related services.
In this role you will be working as educator, researcher, and leader/change agent in the ongoing pursuit of clinical excellence and improved health outcomes.
It is essential that the Midwifery Educator role is underpinned by strong role modelling and a commitment to the development of knowledge and skills through sound research and evidence-based practice.
You will need to have (or be working towards) a relevant post-graduate qualification, commitment for your profession and the enthusiasm and skills for ‘returning the learning’ and facilitating the development of maternity and maternity-related services.
Welcome to Timaru Hospital’s Jean Todd Maternity Unit. We provide primary and secondary care to women in South Canterbury. This is hands-on midwifery work; we see around 600 births a year, ranging from normal and low-risk to complex and high-needs.
These are the hands-on midwives whom you will be supporting. You will be promoting a learning environment, underpinned by strong role modelling and a commitment to the development of knowledge and skills.
Welcome to a better career. In this smaller unit, you’ll be well-supported by the rest of the staff. Our teams are self-led, which means that changes are made by people on the floor, not in offices. We’re a collaborative team that works closely to make sure our patients get the best outcomes, and that our work environment is the best you could wish for.
Welcome to the Timaru District. If it’s a lifestyle change you’re looking for, this is where you’ll find it. As well as very little traffic, and a friendly, relaxed community. Not to mention easy access to outdoor and cultural activities all year round. You’ll find plenty to refresh you outside work – and have more time to do it too.
This is midwifery as you’ve always imagined it. And if you’re ready to take on this very satisfying role and lifestyle, then it’s time to take the opportunity.
