The Role

This role involves managing and supporting the infrastructure and application systems in use at the DHB.  That work can range from planning the adoption, upgrade or replacement of a particular system to the fine tuning of existing systems and ultimately to the phasing out of systems and technologies that are no longer meeting the needs of the DHB. 

Accordingly, the role covers a large range of technologies and will suit someone who enjoys a variety of work, takes a logical approach to that work, seeks opportunities to improve systems and maintains an ongoing interest in learning.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required as there is a requirement to work productively with team members as well as DHB stakeholders and users to ensure that IT services are being delivered effectively.

The Team

The current DHB IT team delivers a wide range of services to the DHB and is seeking the services of a talented Systems Engineer in order to maintain and continue improving the delivery of those services. 

The current team members understand the challenges and satisfaction of supporting a busy hospital IT environment and maintain a positive attitude toward to the variety of tasks they undertake. 

Your Work Schedule

The role is based at the Timaru Hospital campus and the vast majority of your work will be at that location.  Standard working hours are Monday to Friday however, given the nature of the role, there will be some occasions where changes need to be undertaken outside those hours.  After approximately six months you will be also expected to join an on-call roster. 

Person Specifications

A minimum of 5+ years background of managing/supporting a broad range of infrastructure and application systems is required. Relevant industry certifications are desirable however these need to be coupled with demonstrated experience and knowledge.

Experience with the following standard technologies will be favourable:

  • Network switching and wireless technologies
  • Security technologies including firewalls, anti-virus, patching and remote access 
  • Servers/Storage hardware along with virtualisation and backup technologies
  • General system administration tasks including Exchange and Group Policy

Experience/familiarity with the following areas is highly desirable:

  • Contemporary IT security guidelines/standards – PSR, NZISM, HISF
  • Microsoft Public Cloud Services – M365, Azure, Azure AD
  • Microsoft SQL Server / SSMS
  • ITIL principles
