Geriatrician (Specialist Physician for Health of Older Persons)

AT&R Department at Timaru Hospital

Right now we are seeking expressions of interest for a Geriatrician to join the Assessment Treatment and Rehabilitation Unit ( AT&R) and to share in the care of this 20 bed sub-acute care unit, participate in community visits and clinic visits, where we are focusing on service development to become more community facing to support and lead the innovation of community health of older persons services, (working in consultation and partnership with primary care). The new purpose-built AT&R unit provides a coordinated multidisciplinary service that is customized to restore functional ability and enable people to live as independently as possible.

Health New Zealand -Te Whatu Ora - South Canterbury is responsible for the delivery of services throughout the South Canterbury region and Timaru Hospital (131 beds) serves a district population of approximately 50,000 based in a General Hospital Facility, (which has just commenced a significant refurbishment programme), providing our local community with such critical 24/7 services as  ED, ICU/CCU, General, Orthopaedic, & ENT Surgery, O&G, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Oncology & Palliative Care, Internal Medicine and Paediatrics.
