Emergency Physician (Permanent - Full Time)

Permanent/Full Time

“Seeking the best of both worlds”

You would be joining a well-performing Emergency Department with all the facilities and opportunities you would expect. The wider group of SMOs in the DHB are a cohesive group which you will find refreshing and encouraging. Because of the smaller hospital environment you also know all the junior doctors and allied staff you work with.

As the ED Physician you will be a primary responder to critical cases, along with attending to the slightly more routine but still urgent clinical presentations, with support from an enduring team of skilled ED Nurses who all collectively respond to approximately 18,000 presentations at our Emergency Department each year.

Currently the roster has no night shift or ‘on call’ requirements for our Emergency Physicians and operates on a rotating basis, allowing some predictability for planning leisure activities.

Timaru offers a lifestyle opportunity second to none; this is an easy place to live, family friendly, very low crime with instant access to an astounding array of outdoor activities – one of New Zealand's top ten beaches, ski fields with both learner and advanced slopes, lakes and mountains, the iconic McKenzie Country on ones doorstep. When it comes to public amenities you are spoiled for choice with multiple golf courses, a new aquatic/gym facility and excellent sporting venues. The climate is great; hot summers, crisp winters, there is no such thing as a commute to work, good property, including lifestyle blocks, are extremely affordable and primary and secondary educational facilities are superb with two internationally renowned University's within 2 hours drive.

We think Timaru Hospital allows our Clinicians a real chance to enjoy the best of both worlds so if you are eligible to obtain Vocational Scope of Practice in Emergency Medicine with the Medical Council of NZ, why not contact us and find out more?

We look forward to receiving your application directly via our Careers Site, however for us it’s always been personal, so please talk to me if you wish to find out more. Phone Bev Bartlett - HR Advisor on +64 (03) 687-2341 or email;  bbartlett@scdhb.health.nz
