Critical Care Registrar – Timaru Hospital

Critical Care Registrar

Health New Zealand - South Canterbury, Timaru Hospital

Full Time - starting 2024

Looking for that elusive Registrar role where you won’t be competing with all of the other Registrars on your team for access to the best cases or Consultants to work with?

If you will be a PGY3 (or more) House Officer or are a Registrar looking to broaden your clinical exposure in Critical Care, then Health New Zealand - South Canterbury / Timaru Hospital could be the ideal place for you.

We have a genuinely rare chance for Critical Care Registrars to join our team of Senior Doctors who are all keen to teach, (despite the fact this is not recognised as a formal training post).  Work will be across the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Emergency Department, General Medicine, General Surgery, Maternity and Paediatrics.

Professionally speaking we are looking for Critical Care Registrars seeking to extend themselves. You would be working in a facility with CT/MRI on site, in an informal (almost extended family) atmosphere.

Why choose Health New Zealand - South Canterbury?

As one of the country’s smaller Districts our people always have room to move and grow - you will get a wider exposure to specialties and enjoy the benefits of a flat structure: processes that run smoothly and a fun, friendly culture. With us, you are more than just a number; you are part of a team where everyone knows your name.  You will be supported to thrive through our many professional development opportunities.

On top of all that, you’ll get to enjoy the fantastic Timaru lifestyle: between the beach, the mountains, and the ski-fields, work-life balance is truly achievable here.

Starting in July, Timaru would be your perfect base for winter skiing, with 5 ski-fields within driving distance.

Please be aware, if you are an overseas candidate that as of November 2017 the Medical Council of New Zealand (Council) introduced a new method of primary source verification using the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates - Electronic Portfolio of International Credentials (ECFMG - s EPIC) service. Being certified through EPIC is now compulsory and we therefore recommend that applicants have registered their professional credentials with EPIC.
