Midwife New Graduate Programme
Part Time 32 Hours per week (0.8 FTE)
Think for a moment about the kind of midwife you’d be in an ideal environment. You’d be cool and calm, patient and compassionate, and always have time for that mum who’s having a post-birth ‘moment’ or needs some extra breastfeeding support. And that’s exactly what you’ll be at South Canterbury District Health Board.
Welcome to Timaru Hospital’s Jean Todd Maternity Unit. We warmly invite you to apply for a position at South Canterbury District Health Board in our Graduate Midwife Programme. Our friendly, supportive, encouraging setting is a great place to begin your midwifery career. We aim to assist you in further developing your clinical practice and critical thinking skills with a programme and environment that supports your individual needs. Our programme is designed to facilitate the smooth transition from student to practising midwife.
Welcome to your next level. This 14 Month programme offers the following to complement your MFYP:
- A structured orientation including 6 weeks supernumerary supported by an experienced preceptor
- Paid study days designed to meet your learning needs and to support you in your clinical area
- Extensive range of services offering exposure to a wide variety of learning experiences
- Support and guidance from our designated Midwifery Educator and the Learning hub staff
- A teaching DHB with an excellent reputation
- On site education for PROMPT, Midwifery Combined Emergency Skills, Newborn Life Support and ongoing Breastfeeding education.
Welcome to the Timaru District. If it’s a lifestyle change you’re looking for, this is where you’ll find it. As well as very little traffic, and a friendly, relaxed community. Not to mention easy access to outdoor and cultural activities all year round. You’ll find plenty to refresh you outside work – and have more time to do it too.
Welcome to our community. This isn’t a place where you wave your patients goodbye at the door – this is a small, close knit place, and you’ll watch their babies grow as you go about your daily life.
This is midwifery as you’ve always imagined it. And if you’re ready to take on this very satisfying role and lifestyle, then it’s time to take the opportunity.
